Coal transshipment at Russian seaports increased by 5.2% year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2025


According to data from the Association of Sea Trade Ports (ASOP) published on the IAA PortNews website on October 11, Russian seaports handled a total of 653.4 million tons of cargo from January to September 2025, a 2.3% decrease compared to the same period last year.
ASOP data shows that in the first nine months of this year, Russian ports handled 322.6 million tons of dry bulk cargo, a 3.2% year-on-year decrease. This included 150.8 million tons of coal (up 5.2%), 40.1 million tons of containerized cargo (down 1.9%), 35 million tons of mineral fertilizers (up 8.8%), 32.1 million tons of grain (down 44.1%), 17.4 million tons of ferrous metals (up 24%), 11.5 million tons of ore (up 36.6%), and 6.1 million tons of roll-on/roll-off cargo (up 1.2%).
Liquid cargo throughput reached 330.8 million tons (-1.3%), including 204.9 million tons of crude oil (+1.2%), 92.9 million tons of petroleum products (-6%), 26 million tons of liquefied natural gas (-1.6%), and 4.1 million tons of liquid food products (-11.8%).
In the first nine months, Russian ports handled 512.3 million tons of export cargo (-2.8%), 30.9 million tons of import cargo (-1.9%), 56.1 million tons of transit cargo (+12.1%), and 54.1 million tons of coastal cargo (-10%).
Looking at regional ports, only ports in the Far East saw an increase in throughput; ports in other regions all experienced varying degrees of decline.
