Russian farmers have threshed nearly 13.3 million tons of sunflower seeds

The gross sunflower harvest by the end of the second ten-day period in October was approximately 13.3 million tons, having threshed 8.8 million hectares (72% of the total area). This is 1.3 million tons less than the previous year, according to the RUSEED analytical center.
"The pace of work remains stable, especially in the central and Volga regions," the analysts commented.
According to RUSEED, 100% of the sunflower area has been threshed in the Republic of Ingushetia, 96% in the Republic of Adygea, 94% in the Krasnodar Krai, and 93% in the Republic of Crimea.
The average sunflower yield this year is lower: 15.1 centners per hectare compared to 16.6 centners the previous year. RUSEED explained that this is due to the drought in southern Russia. In the Central and Volga regions, yields "remain stable, partially offsetting losses in the South."
The leaders in sunflower yield as of October 20 were:
·Vladimir Region — 37.5 centners per hectare;
·Nizhny Novgorod Region — 31.1 centners per hectare;
·Ryazan Region — 27.2 centners per hectare;
·Oryol Region — 26.4 centners per hectare;
·Kursk Region — 25.1 centners per hectare.
The largest yield increases were observed in Omsk Region (+37%), Kurgan Region (+20%), Adygea (+17%), the Chechen Republic (+16%), and Bashkortostan (+13%).
"We're particularly pleased to note the Saratov Region—the largest region in sunflower acreage (1.6 million hectares). Here, yields increased by 5%, and by the end of the second ten-day period of October, the region had harvested 1.9 million tons of sunflower seeds (14% of the Russian Federation's total)," the analysts added.
