The Russian government will cancel export tariffs on coking coal from December 1, 2024, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov revealed, TASS reported.
Russia is currently suspending export tariffs on power coal, while tariffs on coking coal continue to be enforced.
A month ago it was reported that the Russian Finance Ministry announced plans to maintain the export tariffs on coking coal until the end of 2024. Meanwhile, the tariff exemption on power coal, which was due to expire on December 1, is expected to be extended until at least January 1, 2025.
Originally announced on September 21, 2023, Russian authorities announced the implementation of flexible export tariffs on coal, which came into effect on October 1, 2023, and were originally scheduled to last until the end of 2024 for a period of 15 months. Instead, Russia canceled this export tariff at the end of December 2023, only three months after its implementation.
Subsequently, the Russian government reinstated the coal export tariffs again on March 1 this year, which were supposed to last until February 28, 2025, but then decided to cancel the export tariffs on thermal and anthracite coal from May 1 to August 31 this year, after which the Russian government agreed to extend the suspension of the export tariffs on thermal and anthracite coal for another three months, until December 2024 December 1, 2024
