Harvest in Novosibirsk Oblast Halted Due to Snowfall

Snowfalls in October have caused serious problems with the harvest campaign in the Novosibirsk Oblast. Farmers are still unable to complete their work due to the snow cover, which has covered 23% of unharvested grains, half of the oilseeds, and vegetables. This was reported by Infopro54, citing representatives of the region's agricultural sector.

Alexander Teplyakov, President of Novosibirsk Food Corporation LLC and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources, and Land Relations of the Legislative Assembly of the Novosibirsk Oblast, expressed hope for improved weather. He noted that after the snowfall, it is important for rain to begin, otherwise the fields will remain unharvested.

After the snowfalls of October 9, the snow depth in the region reached 17-20 cm.

This makes it difficult to use agricultural machinery, as it becomes ineffective and prone to breakdowns. As of October 6, farmers had harvested 77% of the grain and 49% of industrial crops. The regional Ministry of Agriculture announced that updated information on the harvesting campaign would be available on October 13. Farmers do not yet consider the harvest to be lost, but anticipate possible financial losses.

As a reminder, this year, the region expanded the area under all types of oilseed crops, with the final grain harvest expected to reach 2.415 million tons (after processing).
